In a remote Chinese village where only ten elderly people remain, the village chief ties up the last young man
—mute and obedient Xiao Wu—
in hopes of forcing him into marriage and keeping the bloodline alive. But what starts as a collective scheme becomes an unexpected act of liberation.

As part of the SIFF 2023 Training Camp, Oriental Pearl was developed through immersive research, group feedback, and rooftop reflections over Shanghai.
What began as fragments of observation became a full story of control, compassion, and escape.

《东方明珠》在2023年上海国际电影节训练营中进行集体创作和深入研发。村长、媒婆与小五的故事，在城市与乡村的交错中逐渐成型。
创作的那几天，我们在高楼林立的天台上讨论着村庄的命运。
